11U QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

Q: How many tournaments/games do you plan on playing in?

A: We plan on signing up for 6-7 tournaments and scheduling more local games/scrimmages. We have a lot of relationships with clubs over in the valley that have expressed interest in coming over on a weekend for a double header or best of 3 series that we plan on taking advantage of that on weekends that we are not traveling. as always. we plan on communicating with the families throughout the season and checking in and asking for opinions and feedback to gauge interest and appetite on whether or not we want to add a tournament or two at the end of the season.

Q: When will the season start and end?

A: We will hold tryouts on Sunday September 24th from 9:00 am - 11:30 am at Big Sky Park. Once the team is announced, we will offer 100% optional open hitting sessions throughout the late fall and winter as well as some strength and conditioning sessions. Practice will officially start in January. We strongly encourage and fully support multi-sport athletes and believe in the strength of comprising a roster built with multi-sport athletes. If there are practice conflicts during the fall or winter, the in-season sport should always take priority.  The season will wrap up in June.

Q: I know Jerry Owens is the head coach but are there going to be dad assistants?

A: Our staff will be made up of all non-dad coaches. Dylan Jacob, one of our Boss Baseball instructors will be Jerry’s top assistant. Justin Wakem, another Boss Baseball instructor, is hoping to help out as well.

Q: What is the cost?

A: This number is a bit of a moving target. But we are going to do our very best to keep costs down as much as we can.  These teams are purely passion projects for us and Boss Baseball has never profited from the teams we run. We will keep open books so you know exactly where your money is going.  With that said, last year the crush dues were $1600. Our goal is to keep this years costs at or under $2,000. Naturally the cost is going to be higher because we are paying non-dad coaches. We are also exploring some fundraising to help bring down costs as well.

Q: Can kids tryout for Boss Baseball and another local team, such as Crush?

A: Yes, this was a very important detail for us to get right, as we do not want any players being left out. After speaking with with the Crush organization, both clubs have agreed to do our tryouts in September and give families until 10/1 to make a decision.

Q: Can my son also play Little league if he makes the Boss Baseball team?

A: Absolutely! That will be an individual decision made by each family and we will fully support those kids who elect to play Little League.

Q: What is the long term plan of this team?

A: Our hope and plan is that Coach Owens will continue to coach this team for the next four years and pass them off to the high school programs as strong ball players and even better young men.  As with all youth sports, this will be a marathon, not a sprint. For both Coach Owens and the players, we will work together over the years to provide the opportunities to play highly competitive baseball and train to develop strength and speed, without burning out players, families, and coaches. We just wrapped up our 5th summer with our High School teams and have no plans of slowing down. Starting the youth teams is a long term commitment and endeavor as well.
